Smarts.md's English-Market Growth Strategy

Smarts.md's early growth strategy for the English market: build DeFi documentation authority through X, Reddit, SEO, AI Search, and Build in Public.

Get the positioning right: who are you selling to?

Smarts.md's target users are DeFi researchers, protocol developers, and DAO participants. Before they decide to use or invest in a protocol, they read documentation and study on-chain data seriously.

These people cluster on X, Reddit, and Farcaster — not TikTok or YouTube.

Phase 1: Build authority through content (0–60 days)

This is the foundation. It cannot be skipped.

X (Crypto Twitter) as the main line

Most conversation in crypto starts on X, and a single tweet can convert directly into real interest and new users.

What to do:

  • Publish 2–3 protocol-deep-dive threads per week with a consistent format.
  • Example: "Uniswap V3 has 47 pages of docs. Here's what actually matters in 3 minutes."
  • CTA at the end: full analysis at smarts.md.
  • Run a "Protocol of the Week" series. Pick a DeFi Top 50 protocol every week and run a comparison — e.g., Aave vs. Compound — backed by Smarts.md's own platform data.
  • Use the .md domain itself as a talking point: "Why we chose smarts.md — because Markdown is how AI reads the web."

Reddit as the main line

Reddit's search traffic in 2026 is higher than ever. Google cites it. ChatGPT and Perplexity cite it. Crypto users tend to research a project on Reddit before they ever land on its website.

Key subreddits:

  • r/defi
  • r/ethfinance
  • r/CryptoCurrency
  • r/UniSwap

Rules:

  • Accumulate karma for several weeks before promoting anything.
  • Follow the 80/20 rule: 8 high-value contributions for every 1 promotional post.
  • Answer DeFi technical questions from your personal account first to establish credibility.
  • After 60–90 days, mention Smarts.md naturally.

Phase 2: Claim SEO + AI Search (months 1–3)

DeFi SEO isn't competitive at scale — most protocols ignore it. That's Smarts.md's edge.

Keyword types to attack:

  • "how to read [protocol] smart contract"
  • "Uniswap V3 documentation explained"
  • "best DeFi protocol docs 2026"

More users are asking ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini "what's the best DeFi protocol." AI Search visibility is now a primary channel.

That means content has to be cleanly structured and written in Markdown. Smarts.md is natively aligned with that.

Phase 3: Build in Public as a differentiation weapon

Smarts.md has an advantage most DeFi projects don't: a founder with an HPB background, and a story to tell.

The protocols that win are the ones that build their marketing around education, product-led distribution, and genuine community participation.

What to do:

  • Publish "how I'm building a DeFi documentation platform with Rails 8 + ruby_llm"–style builder threads.
  • Turn the Smarts.md development log into content: tech choices, on-chain data problems, strategic thinking behind the .md domain.
  • This kind of content travels far inside the Crypto Twitter builder circle.
